Microhive awards

2025 Microhive Awards

The Microhive Awards celebrates employers who are leading the way in fostering a culture of generosity, inclusivity, and societal impact through microgiving. Based on participation rates, our winners receive a Microhive Social Purpose Quality Mark, an endorsement that can be used to support ESG reporting.

Despite tough economic challenges it was fantastic to see that Microhive continued to grow in popularity in 2025 as an affordable way for everyone to support charities. The Awards provide a way to thank staff and pensioners, and remind them the difference they have made. Employers must have at least 10% of employees signed up to the scheme to win an Award and our Platinum Award is reserved for those with over 40% of staff joining in – the highest Award in the fundraising sector!

Of course, the real winners are all the Microhive charities who, thanks to the collective efforts of our companies , have received £8.5 million in donations—proving the power of small contributions coming together to drive meaningful change.

Microhive Brand Boosts Engagement

This year, we are proud to announce that we have more winners than at any time in the past decade—a testament to the growing momentum of micro-giving. Since our rebrand in 2024, we have seen a significant rise in both employer participation and employee engagement. Half of our winners have adopted our new visual identity and name, and all have experienced a boost in employee involvement.

One of these employers is Aldi UK, who after moving to the Microhive brand seen an increase in participation that have moved them from a Gold to a Platinum Microhive Award – the highest recognition of success!

Aldi UK are delighted to receive the Platinum award from Microhive, a fantastic achievement by our UK colleagues. Microhive has helped Aldi UK raise over £473,000 to Teenage Cancer Trust. In Aldi Ireland, over €16,000 for Barnardos has been raised, resulting in a Silver Microhive award. Our colleagues go above and beyond every day to fundraise for these wonderful charities, and the Microhive payroll giving scheme has been an incredible way to enable us to raise even more. Microhive has been able to easily facilitate the generosity from our colleagues, and we look forward to seeing what Aldi can achieve next through the scheme.

Gold for New Adopters

Among this year’s gold winners are new adopters of the scheme, including Brand Potential, the branding agency that played a pivotal role in redefining our brand story and visual identity. After deeply engaging in our rebranding journey last year, it is fantastic to see them now launching the scheme within their own organisation—demonstrating their commitment to supporting charities and advancing their ESG initiatives.

We are absolutely delighted to be in partnership with Microhive, both in helping them to re-brand and re-name their business and now participating as a company. The power of the new brand will help them to engage with even more companies and more people, helping them to make an even bigger impact on people’s lives. Theirs is a vital mission that we are proud to support.

Chris Molloy. Co-founder, Chief Growth Officer at Brand Potential.

NHS Record Results

We are also proud to see the highest level of NHS organisations winning Awards. We work across the NHS where staff to date have donated over £1.8m, much of which has benefited NHS charities. It is fantastic to see Microhive flourishing in the NHS as we know the donations are supporting services that go beyond what NHS budgets can cover. These donations make a tangible difference in enhancing healthcare for all of us.

We’re proud to have received the Bronze Award. Microhive is a fantastic initiative that we have actively promoted across our Trust. It’s amazing to see how small contributions can quickly add up, and we’re excited to keep building on this success and grow the scheme even further.

Kyra Swaby. Communications and Marketing Officer. King George & Queen’s Hospitals Charity.

We are delighted that our staff participation in Microhive continues to grow. Since October 2017, the South Western Ambulance Charity has seen a 114% increase in individuals registered to donate their spare pennies from their salary each time they are paid. The Charity now benefits from over £1,000 a month in charitable income from Microhive, supporting our vital work alongside the Ambulance Service and communities in the South West.

Zoe Larter. Head of Charity. South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

Microhive Quality Mark

In 2023 we launched the Microhive Quality Mark (formerly known as Pennies from Heaven) and shared it with our winners. This mark demonstrates an organisations dedication to support society and add value to the charities and communities they care about. Working with Microhive also generates a much wider impact than the donations the charities receive. We are a Social Enterprise that wants everyone to be part of micro giving, so as employers join the Microhive family, all working together for the betterment of society, the deeper the social impact we have together. Only our Award winners can use this mark on their websites, ESG reports and other stakeholder communications.
